My blog, my opinion. Enough said.
So, I'm reading this article in Marie Claire (August 2010) called "An American Tragedy" by Abigail Pesta. Basically, there's a 20 year old woman named Noor Almaleki who was living in Phoenix, AZ, USA. I repeat, USA.
Her father ran her over with his truck. Excuse me? Ran her over with his truck. Because she was bringing dishonor to the family. Omg, I don't even know where to begin.
She was going to school, taking care of her siblings, apparently she wasn't doing anything wrong. But because she was becoming "too Americanized". Her father tricked her into going to Iraq to marry her off, according to the article. For some reason, they ended up back home, maybe she was married, maybe not.
Well, he found a picture on her myspace page of her with a couple of guys and that's when the trouble really started. She tried to move out of the house and get her own place and get a job, but her mom and dad kept showing up and harassing her at work.
Can anyone say stalking?
Well she moved back in until she got a beating one night and then she finally left for good to move in with a nearby Iraqi family, which was the biggest mistake ever according to her dad.
He freakin ran her over!! And she didn't die, she was comatose, but after being declared brain dead, who do you think opted to pull the plug? The family, of course. And they helped him. Gave him money to run off to Mexico after the police got involved, they keep denying everything...a phone conversation was even recorded between Noor's mom and dad (while he was in jail) and they were talking about how to get him off the hook with tribal laws and insanity pleas.
Sick. Sick, sick, sick. He just committed MURDER. First degree, cold blooded, premeditated murder of his own daughter. And I say, for no good reason. If she's gonna dishonor your family, disown her. People do that shit everyday.
There are no universal truths because every culture is different. There's only what each individual or group believes to be true. But this man and his family are living in the USA...that's some bullshit. It is not ok to murder in the USA.
